Ambiance Hair Design owner Dawn Toye opened her salon on July 15, 1983. Toye, 23 at the time chose the name ‘Ambiance’ because it was indicative of the vision she had for her salon. She wanted to create a “warm and friendly environment that was upbeat, professional, and clean.”

The salon includes an award-winning wash house, a state of the art color bar, and a professional cutting studio. Toye maintains that education is the key to staying current, marketable, and on top of the salon industry. From the beginning, it was part of her vision to build a team where every member of her staff is carefully selected, and professionally trained by her. It is essential that every team member makes beauty, education, and people their top priority every day they come to work.

Toye continues to manage the salon and work behind the chair full-time. She says she carries the same passion for her career today that she had when she started. “There’s nothing better than being a ‘day maker’ every time she comes to work at Ambiance,” she says, adding that she feels “nothing short of blessed” to have met and formed relationships with so many clients who have supported her, the salon, and her vision for success along the way.
